Understanding the STMG baccalaureate and its specificities
A bachelor's degree focused on management, law and marketing
Imagine diving into a balance sheet to understand what makes a business work: welcome to Management Science. The STMG baccalaureate is more specific than the other courses: you learn how to follow a budget, build a dashboard and lead a concrete project.
In law, you dissect the basics of business law: contracts, liability, social rules... everything to understand an entity and prevent it from going bankrupt, for example.
Côté economy, it's a bit like looking under the hood of the market. Price fluctuations, the impact of public policies and consumer behavior.
Finally, in management of organizations, you understand how a manager leads a team and makes decisions.
In high school, depending on the specialty chosen (marketing, human resources, management-finance or management information systems), you can deepen your skills in marketing, finance or digital management...
En Mercatical, you learn how to create a marketing plan, study the competition and start digital communication.
En finance management, you dive into financial analysis and learn to decipher an income statement like a real financial investigator.
In specialty information and management systems, you discover how a spreadsheet or a database become your best allies in managing a business.
Over the course of these projects in small groups, you carry out a business diagnosis, build a mini-marketing campaign or even propose a simplified financial audit. These experiences give you the confidence you need to manage a real project from A to Z by making the right decisions.
By leaving STMG, you have the skills to choose your higher education with confidence. Exactly, in what direction can you go?
Why does the STMG baccalaureate open up to various courses?
The STMG baccalaureate is your toolbox: you combine skills in management, accounting, marketing, digital technology.
Your profile allows you to:
- Joining a Grande École program in a business school (like BSB): your STMG file is an asset for entering a Bachelor in Management with a 3-year program. If you do not yet know, at this stage, which specialization to choose (finance, marketing, etc.), this Bachelor allows you to acquire solid foundations during the first 2 years before making a choice towards a specialization in the 3rd year with the possibility of doing it alternately.
The Bachelor allows you, as soon as you leave the bac, to combine courses, professional experience with internships in companies from the first year and opening up to an international audience. - Integrate a specialized course from the first year such as a BTS or a BUT SME management, accounting, negotiation and digitalization of customer relationships, Business Management and Administration, marketing techniques...
You can opt for an orientation focused on a specialization if you have already thought about your professional project and want short studies.
You can then consider entering the world of work with these short courses or continue your studies by joining a Master's degree in business school. - Pursue a university degree (Economy-Management, Law, Management Sciences): by following a more theoretical and academic path, you deepen your knowledge, prepare for a university master's degree and discover research.
Thanks to its versatility, the STMG baccalaureate opens the doors to the higher education you want.

The Bachelor in Management is a 3-year program that delivers solid skills in:
- management,
- management,
- marketing,
- finance,
- law,
- business development,
- data,
- digital,
- entrepreneurship...
Depending on the school, you can opt for a specialization. This is the case in the 3rd year at BSB with the possibility of doing this 3rd year alternately. You choose a pre-specialization among the 8 offered:
- International Business Management
- Wine Tourism
- Business Development
- Luxury Marketing and Premiumization
- Digital Management

Oriented to careers and fields, the Bachelor course allows either to access the job market or to continue with a Master Grande Ecole to access management positions with attractive remuneration.
Business schools have other strengths, such as their network of alumni (former students), whose strength is well established in order to find internships, apprenticeships or jobs.
School associations are often numerous (at BSB we have +20 for all passions and desires for impact) allow project management with the direct application of lessons. Or even mandatory internships in companies from the first year.
The good news is that you can directly apply to the best business schools directly on Parcoursup.
💡 BSB goes even further with its Pathfinder accompanying device which helps each student to get to know each other, to choose an academic path that corresponds to their values, ambitions and personality and to build a path consistent with their professional project.

BTS and BUT: short and professional courses
If you prefer to do short studies with a specialization as soon as you leave BAC, the BTS and BUT are made for you! In two years for a BTS and three years for a BUT, you alternate theoretical courses and practical cases.
The most requested are:
- BTS Commercial Operational Management (MCO)): manage a business unit, manage a customer portfolio and organize sales actions;
- BTS Accounting and Management (CG)): keep accounts, analyze a balance sheet, follow a budget and support financial decisions;
- BTS Negotiations and Digitization of Customer Relations (NDRC): master prospecting, loyalty and digital tools for customer relationships;
- BUT Business and Administration Management (GEA): 3 years to explore management, finance, law and management with concrete projects from the first year;
- PURPOSE Technical Marketing (TC): focused on marketing, negotiation and digital technology, with real case studies to prepare for the professional world.
University: what licenses after an STMG bac
If college tempts you, several licenses are possible with an STMG baccalaureate. You will access it on file and by requesting it from Parcoursup.
You can choose between:
La economics and management license, where you will delve into accounting and management topics. There, you will develop your analytical skills and prepare a Master's degree in Finance, Marketing or Human Resources.
La Law degree, to introduce you to the basics of civil law, business law and social law. This course requires editorial rigor and a good ability to master legal vocabulary.
La Bachelor of Management Sciences, which combines statistics, econometrics and management courses to prepare you for the jobs of management controller, financial analyst or junior consultant.
Finally, the AES license is multidisciplinary: economics, law and sociology intersect to open you up to the public service, the voluntary sector or public management.
The pace in college is more autonomous. You have a large volume of courses and work to prepare. You have a less structured schedule than in BTS/BUT. Universities often offer tutoring and meetings with educational advice to support you. Once your license has been validated, you can consider a Master (BAC+5) with the possibility of work-study programs.
The disadvantage of this course is that there is no professional experience or internship included in the 3 years of the Bachelor's degree. You should consider building your professional experience outside of the university setting with student jobs for example.

Examples of successful courses
Julie, 21 years old, Bac STMG (Mercatique option)
“After an STMG Bac, I hesitated for a long time between a BTS and a university degree. I finally chose the BSB Bachelor in Management because I was looking for a program that was both professional and internationally oriented. From the start of the school year, the Pathfinder™ support system helped me to clarify my project: I was able to build my academic career (digital marketing modules, web analytics) while planning my internships and my 4-week exchange in Ireland”
Laurent, 22 years old, Bac STMG (Management-Finance option)
“During my STMG Bac, the courses had already made me aware of accounting and management control, but I wanted to acquire a more global vision of management. The BSB Bachelor seduced me with its finance specialization and its trading room. The academic excellence of the school with its triple accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA), its Bachelor's and Master's degrees, and its network of 1,500 partner companies were also decisive elements.”
How do you find your way around after an STMG baccalaureate?
Even if the STMG Bac offers you a solid base, the real question is: What course of studies and what career path are made for you ?
Before choosing a field, take the time to take stock of your personality, your ambitions and your desires.
To move forward with peace of mind, here are the right questions to ask yourself:
The right questions to ask
- What do I really like? This can be: project management, numbers, communication, entrepreneurship, international...
- What am I good at? Academic skills, relational skills, organization, creativity, etc.
- What is my pace and capacity for work? Autonomy, regularity, the desire for a very structured framework or freedom...
- Do I want to quickly enter the job market or continue my studies?
- Am I motivated by international experiences?
- Do I like to learn in a practical way (work-study programs, internships), or do I prefer to stick to theory at first?
- How important do I attach to support? coaching, mentoring...
- Am I fluent in English or computer skills? Do I need to strengthen myself in these areas?
- Do I want to join a school, a university, an apprenticeship program or try a year abroad?
Practical tips to refine your choice:
- Meet former students, participate in Open house days and ask all your questions (atmosphere, support, opportunities...)
- Seek the advice of your professors or a guidance counsellor, but also rely on your personal feelings.
- Verify that the course offers internships, work-study programs, mentoring, and a solid network of partner companies.
- Think about mobility: does school or university make it easy to go abroad or change paths?
Mistakes to avoid
After the STMG baccalaureate, several pitfalls can hinder your success. To choose the right course and avoid regrets, be careful not to reproduce these mistakes:
- Follow a default course : don't be guided only by the trend or the easy way (“everyone does it”). Your choice of studies should reflect your ambitions, your desires and what really motivates you.
- Limit yourself to what you already know : the STMG Bac opens many doors for you, even to areas that you have not yet explored. Dare to discover! Nothing prevents you from moving towards a different sector, from testing new worlds. The Bachelor in Management, for example, is designed to support you in this exploration and refine your professional project.
- Skip open houses : it is the ideal opportunity to discover the atmosphere of a school, meet teachers and students, ask your questions and evaluate the proposed professional network. At BSB, Open Days are organized every month. Take the opportunity to come to campus and live the experience!
- Neglecting the support of guidance counsellors : they are there to support you, clarify your projects, and present you with all the possibilities. At BSB, our orientation coaches are available to guide you in your choice of orientation and to help you build a career path that suits you. Make an appointment!
- Do not study the financial dimension : check the tuition fees (which vary according to the courses and schools), but also the costs of accommodation or transport. Scholarship opportunities (on income, merit, excellence...), student loans, and the possibility of an apprenticeship contract or a student job to help you finance your career.
